In style it's quite Georgian, where most Australian cities are either mostly of Federation or Victorian era style.
In ambiance I thought it had quite an English air to it, and even the accents of the residents sound even noticeably more English than Australian (I've heard others say the same thing).
In some ways it feels like time has stood still there, or that the island is lagging 10 years behind the rest of Australia (also a good thing as so much heritage is still intact)
The countryside between Hobart and Launceston (on the inland Heritage Highway) I found very English indeed, with stone convict built bridges, some scottish and Irish shops, European style stone old farm buildings....tres jolie. And for the most part, it's very mountainous with very narrow, winding roads. Certain regions remind me of the countryside around Auckland-Rotorua.

In Hobart, the winters would be cold compared to Sydney, but compared to Melbourne, only about 5 degrees less on average (sometimes 10) with more snow on the mountains.
Cette region a le un climat la plus moderate en Tasmanie, where even in Winter it doesn't go much below about 12-15 degrees (though I have been there in Fevier too and it wasn't much more than 15degC for several days!

Here in Melbourne we're used to mild-good warmth from October till as late as early May, so in comparison summer seems quite short in Tasmania - real warmth really only seems to be for end December - January - February, unless the visits I've had there have been out of character, weather wise.
Hope this helps.
